With fifth spot in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands still up for grabs, there is still a lot to play for going into Sunday’s final match of what’s been a terrific season for City.
Worcester know that if they leave Lincoln with all three points and Sheffield FC drop points at Notts County, they will earn a fifth-place finish in only their second season in the FA Women’s National League.
Last time out
City won the Worcestershire FA Sunday Women’s Cup for the second time in three seasons, after beating tier five side Redditch Borough 3-1 last Sunday, thanks to two first-half penalties from captain Jess Fassnidge and midfielder Nyah Edwards, who both thumped home from twelve yards to give Worcester a two-goal advantage going into the break.
Redditch Borough halved the deficit three minutes from time with an outstanding volley, however moments later, City hit Borough on the counterattack and finished the game off, as Maia Clark drove into the box from the left and squared the ball to an incoming Kaye Haggett, who finished with the goal gaping to earn City the trophy.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s opponents, Lincoln United, were beaten 5-1 at home by Sheffield FC as they prepare for life in the fifth tier of the Women’s football pyramid.

Jessica Fassnidge - leading by example
We caught up with skipper Jess Fassnidge immediately after another historic moment for the club
She said, “I’m overjoyed, you get to a cup final, and anything can happen. We played a good Redditch Borough side; they might be in the league below, but I think we expected them to come out strong. They’ve got some good experienced players. Any player who gets to a cup final, whether you’re the underdog or expected to win, all you want to do is lift the trophy.”
“I’m really pleased for the players, the staff and everything we’ve done this season, especially on the back end of last week in a tough home match against Northampton and losing there, so coming into today against another tough opposition and taking home the trophy is the most important thing.”
Fassnidge also gave her thoughts on scoring in the final and how she’s bounced back from adversity this campaign.
She added, “Amazing, as a player, you definitely want to score, you want to contribute somehow. I think as attacking players, you often look at your performance, whether you’ve scored, and if you haven’t, sometimes you feel like you’ve often fallen short.
“My personal journey has been a bit different this season, having a break away for personal reasons for a couple of months and then coming back. It’s been up and down for me, but at the end of the day, we’ve got to the end of the season, we’ve won a trophy, and I couldn’t be prouder of the staff, the players.”
“We’ve got a massive squad, we’ve got players today who didn’t make the 16, players that had to watch on the sideline, and I couldn’t imagine how difficult that was for them. This is for everyone at the club, and I’m really proud of everyone who represents Worcester City.”

Previous meeting
The two sides last met back in November at Sixways, where City came away 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Nyah Edwards and a Jenn Higgs strike. The result meant that City equalled their points tally from the whole of the 2024/2025 season.
This season
City currently sit in sixth position in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table and are just a point behind fifth-placed Sheffield FC going into the final round of fixtures.
Worcester have accumulated an outstanding 32 points from 21 games, registering 10 wins, 2 draws and 8 defeats in a season of consolidation for Matt Jones’ side.
Lincoln United sit at the bottom of the league table, after enduring a difficult season this campaign, which has led to relegation to tier 5.
