Who we are

Designed for those who have previously played, this team is ideal for women who aren’t quite ready for walking football but miss the energy, teamwork and excitement of full matches. We play organised monthly fixtures on the main pitch at Sixways Stadium, offering the perfect balance of competition and camaraderie, without the commitment of weekly training and games.

Meet the Founder

Colette Hilson

I decided to hang up my boots at the start of 2024. I still loved playing, but the women’s game has grown so much in recent years, and with so many young girls joining teams, clubs are rightly focusing on building their future around them. It’s brilliant to see, but it does leave us slightly older players in a bit of limbo—on the sidelines, so to speak. And I’m definitely not quite ready for walking football yet!

I started thinking about joining a vets group—something more relaxed, perhaps playing once a month with like‑minded women who still love the game but don’t want the commitment of weekly league matches and evening training sessions. I contacted Worcester FA and Hereford FA, and while they loved the idea, they confirmed that nothing like this currently exists for women.

After reaching out to lots of former players I knew, I could see there was interest and I realised that it was something that was very much needed! So I embarked on a mission to try and get a team together for occasional games against other vets teams. By April 2024 we had secured a local pitch once a month, borrowed a mens old kit, a bag of balls, and the journey to create Worcester’s first women’s vets team had begun.

Worcester City Women FC welcomed us into the WCWFC family at the start of last season, With shared beliefs in the vision and the importance of building a space in our community for older players to carry on playing a game that they have contributed to for many years, we continue to promote Women’s football for all in Worcestershire.
