Worcester City Women Vets Mark Two-Year Milestone with Memorable Win
Worcester City Women Vets celebrated their second anniversary with a well earned 3–1 victory over Tenbury Ladies FC on Sunday in a competitive and closely fought contest.
The two sides matched each other in the early stages, with both defences organised and limiting clear cut chances. Worcester gradually began to build momentum, and their pressure told midway through the first half when Tracey controlled a delivery from the wing before finishing calmly to open the scoring. The goal gave Worcester greater confidence, and they soon doubled their lead following a well-worked move on the edge of the area. Colette found space and struck a composed finish into the bottom corner to make it 2–0.
Tenbury responded with determination and reduced the deficit, ensuring a tense final period. With the game still in the balance, Worcester showed resilience at the back, with Jill producing a composed and assured display in defence to help maintain their advantage. The hosts sealed the win late on after earning a set piece opportunity on the edge of the box. Following the initial effort, Di reacted quickest to guide the ball into the top corner, putting the result beyond doubt. Jill’s performance at the heart of the defence earned her the Players’ Player award, capping an impressive individual display.
Beyond the result, the match marked an important milestone for Worcester City Women Vets as they celebrated two years since their formation. The occasion brought together family and friends, reflecting the strong sense of unity and community that has grown around the team. An injured member of the squad, watching from the sidelines, praised the group’s balance between competitiveness and enjoyment, noting the commitment of the players while maintaining a positive and supportive environment.
The day was made even more special by family members who had travelled from Ireland to attend, highlighting the significance of the occasion for those involved. Following the final whistle, both teams came together to mark the anniversary, bringing an end to a day that combined competitive football with a meaningful celebration.
