WCWFC take part in the first-ever Gtech Community Cup
History was made as Worcester City Women became the first team to take part in the Gtech Community Cup
Last Thursday, Worcester City Women were invited by Gtech, based in Worcester, to take part in the first-ever Gtech Community Cup at the Gtech Community Stadium, home of Premier League outfit. Brentford.
So what is the Gtech Community Cup?
The Gtech Community Cup is a Gtech-funded initiative aimed at bridging the gap between the Premier League and Women’s grassroots football because, in their own words, ‘Local sport deserves the biggest stage’. Gtech created the Gtech Community Cup to bring local sport to the biggest stage and to celebrate women’s grassroots football, elite teamwork, and community sport.
It provides players with a professional matchday experience, using the home and away dressing rooms, the tunnel, and the Gtech Community Stadium’s hospitality suite.
Before the event, Gtech CEO Jothie Walford said, “We are delighted to bring grassroots football to one of London’s leading sports venues.
Through the Gtech Community Cup, we hope to build a platform that makes elite sport accessible for women and girls of all ages and abilities, leaving a legacy for the game in Worcester, West London, and around the UK.”

The Gtetch Community Cup
Worcester City Women XI faced off against Worcester City Women Legends & Friends at the Gtech Community Stadium in the first-ever Gtech Community Cup. The game was made up of two 25-minute halves, 11 vs 11 with no substitutions, as Worcester City Women XI came away 7-0 winners in West London.
Following the game, first team players Clara Zaffignani and Kaye Haggett were named joint players of the match by our fantastic hosts, Gtech and were both awarded with a Gtech vacuum from CEO Jothie Walford.
Owner & CEO Nicole Allison shared her thoughts on another fantastic day for the football club and the community.
She said: “Taking part in the first-ever Gtech Community Cup was an incredibly special experience for Worcester City Women FC and for me personally. As an independently-owned women’s football club, opportunities like this mean so much to us and the communities we serve. To see generations of the WCWFC family come together and play at a Premier League stadium was truly unforgettable.”
“From our teenage players in the Performance Squad to members of our Vets team in their 60s, Thursday brought together players from across the club and created memories that will stay with us forever. For many of us older players, the chance to step onto a stage like this was something we never imagined would be possible. We’re incredibly grateful to Gtech for creating such a special experience and for celebrating football in a way that brings people together across generations.”
WCWFC defender and Community Lead Cerys Dolloway said, “We had the amazing opportunity to head down to Brentford FC to take part in the first-ever Gtech Community Cup last Thursday.”
“The stadium was amazing, and it was incredible to play on a beautiful pitch! We all had a great day, and we are very grateful to Gtech for putting on the event and looking after us so well. I want to thank everyone who was involved in making it happen. Hopefully some more to come with Gtech in the future.”
Worcester City Women Vets player Val Lavery said: “To be involved in the first ever Gtech Community Cup was truly an honour and a privilege. We Vets were so very excited (sometimes emotional!) to travel and compete with WCWFC to Brentford Gtech Community Stadium, for what was to be an epic day.”
“It was a super special moment to step into the stadium and onto the amazing Premier League pitch, ready to play such an entertaining football match! The Brentford and Gtech hospitality and use of facilities were wonderful, which made us all feel very special and extremely proud.”
“A day to cherish, remember with pride, and talk about for a long time to come! We are very lucky vets.”
Everybody at Worcester City Women would like to thank Gtech for inviting us and for their outstanding hospitality throughout the day. We hope to see you at Sixways for a game in the not too distant future as the new FA Women’s National League season kicks off in August.
