City welcomed FA Women’s National League’s bottom side Lincoln United to Sixways on Sunday afternoon, hoping they could bounce straight back following their exit from the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last time out.
The visitors had an effort straight from kick-off; however, Jodie Whiteman made a comfortable save down to her right.
With five minutes on the clock, City had a half-chance after a Nyah Edwards through ball was chased down by Jennifer Higgs, who rounded the goalkeeper, but the ball got away from her before she could place it into an empty net.
Just before the quarter-hour mark, City took the lead, after Edwards unleashed a shot from the edge of the box that nestled into the bottom right of the net.
Three minutes later, City doubled their lead after Jenn Higgs beat the offside trap and lashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Maia Clark played in Sophie Griffiths in the 27th minute, but her shot went over the bar.
Ten minutes before the break, City hit the crossbar from Connie Matthews from a direct free kick right-hand side of the box, the ball then bounced to Cerys Dolloway, whose effort was blocked by the defender to deny City a certain third.
Jodie Whiteman makes an outstanding save following a one-on-one opportunity after a City mix-up in defence, a couple of minutes later, and then immediately after Clark has an effort straight after a Lincoln corner hits the woodwork, but her effort was straight at the goalkeeper.
Into the second half and City were three goals to the good two minutes following the restart, after Clark chased down a ball and hit a shot that the keeper could only parry to Player Of The Match, Edwards, who was on the spot to score her brace.
The visitors, Lincoln, had two efforts just before the hour mark as they tried to get themselves back into the contest; however, neither effort troubled Whiteman in the City net.
With fifteen minutes left, game changer, Clara Zaffignani blocked a goal-bound effort, following the striker turning and shooting inside the box.
A minute from time, the visitors had an effort directly from a free kick, but the ball went just over the bar.
City had two opportunities in stoppage time, firstly with game changers linking up, after Jasmine Springer released Charlotte Poole inside their box, but her effort was beaten away by the goalkeeper and then Springer herself rattled the crossbar after she hit a rocket of a shot from inside the area.
The result meant City have now accumulated the same number of points as they managed in the whole of the last campaign in just ten games, as more history was made at Sixways.
Next up is a trip to Northampton Town in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, on Sunday, 7th December 2025, with a 02:00pm kick off.
