Match Report | WCWFC 2-6 Peterborough United
A defeat for City as ruthless Posh leave Sixways with the three points
City were looking to get back to winning ways following defeat at Boldmere last time out as they welcomed Peterborough United to Sixways on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to kick-off, a minute's silence was observed as we remembered Maddy Cusack, two years on from her tragic passing, and Matt Beard, who sadly passed away on Saturday.
Five minutes into the game, Peterborough hit the post via a header after a corner was played in.
Posh took the lead in the 11th minute, after a flick towards goal somehow went into the net.
Annie Highway had an effort from distance shortly after, but her effort didn’t trouble the Posh goalkeeper.
Twenty minutes in, Jodie Whiteman was forced into a comfortable save, following a strike from distance.
A minute later, Peterborough added their second of the contest, after an audacious direct free kick from distance flew into the right-hand side of the net.
There were two outstanding saves in a couple of minutes for Whiteman. Firstly, getting down to her left, pushing the ball behind, and then tipping the ball over the bar.
Peterborough added a third just after the half-hour mark to take control of the game.
Into the second half, and City sent on Jennifer Higgs for her first appearance after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Things we love to see!
Posh got a quick-fire double shortly after the break to take their advantage to five; however, Charlotte Poole pulled one back in the 50th minute with a well-taken shot into the bottom corner.
The visitors had a chance to extend their lead five minutes from time, but the shot went well wide.
In stoppage time, Keeley Crew forced the Posh’s keeper into a good save, and from the resulting corner, Poole had a shot that went over the bar.
Annie Sime scored an outrageous free kick, but Posh added a sixth at the end of stoppage time.
Next up, City welcome Birmingham City PGA to Sixways in the final group game of this season's FA Women’s National League Cup on Sunday, 28th September, with a 2pm kick-off.

Worcester City U18s
Following their defeat last time out at Stourbridge and an opening-day loss against Lye Town, City’s U18s were looking for their first win of the season as they welcomed Sutton Coldfield Town to Little Perdiswell on Saturday morning.
City were down 1-0 immediately from kick-off.
Half an hour into the game, Sutton Coldfield were awarded a penalty, but Becca saved the penalty down to her right and made herself big to make a superb double save, which turned the game on its head.
Ten minutes later, City equalised through Isla after a composed finish into the net as the Royals' keeper was hesitant in coming out for the ball. Isla has started the season strongly by scoring two goals in two home games.
Into the second half and City began to take control and were rewarded in the 70th minute with a fantastic strike from Amie into the top corner.
Five minutes from time, Sutton Coldfield were through on goal, and beat City keeper Becca to the ball, but a fantastic last-ditch tackle from Emily prevented a certain equaliser to ensure City came away with their first three points of the season.
Worcester City Reserves
Following their first three points of the season last time out as they beat Crusaders at the University of Worcester 2-1, thanks to goals from Jasmin Springer and Victoria Snape, City travelled to Hereford Pegasus on Sunday afternoon in their first away trip of the campaign.
There were two debutants for City today. New signing Gabby Swadkins made her first appearance for City, and last season’s U18s player Chloe Barnard also made her first appearance for the Reserves, having progressed through our pathway.
City opened the scoring in the 9th minute, thanks to a goal from Victoria Snape, who has settled in well since arriving at the club.
The teams went into the break level after Pegasus equalised in the 38th minute.
In the 67th minute, Chloe Barnard scored on her debut to ensure City retook the lead.
Ten minutes from time, Emma Bowyer ensured City a 3-1 win and the three points.
Next up for the reserves is a home game against Droitwich Spa on Sunday, 28th September.
