City beaten in their first competitive outing at Sixways this season

FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands action returned to Sixways on Sunday afternoon, as Barnsley made the trip from South Yorkshire to face a Worcester City Women side who were looking to get their first points on the board following a frustrating defeat at Leafield Athletic on opening day.
The game started with both sides feeling the game out, but it was City who scored from the first shot of the game when Nyah Edwards cushioned her header into the bottom right of the net, after an exquisite Kaye Haggett cross.
In the 15th minute, The visitors had their first effort of the game at the edge of the box, but Annie Sime closed the shot down and Rebecca Wood saved comfortably.
A couple of minutes later, the visitors were level after City failed to clear their lines following a cross and the visiting player found herself at the back stick to slot home.
A Few minutes later, Barnsley tried to retake the lead from a direct free kick, but luckily for City the ball landed on the roof of the net.
Barnsley found themselves in the lead for the first time in the match moments later, after their attacker rounded Wood and slotted the ball home and a few minutes later, the visitors added their third after a cross from the left was unfortunately headed into her own net by Karly Norman.
Just before the 40th minute, Wood made an outstanding instinctive save following a melee in the area.
Five minutes into the second half the visitors streamed forward and a cross flashes across the face of the goal and the visitors moments later put a cross in from the right hand side and was met perfectly, but luckily for City the effort just sailed wide of the post.
Just after the hour mark, City were punished after some sloppy errors, Barnsley pounced and broke forward and slotted the ball past Wood to add their fourth of the contest.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Haggett was sent off for two bookable offences inside three minutes and moments later Barnsley added their fifth with a neat move.
It’s a quick turnaround for City as they host local rivals Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Women’s National League Cup at Sixways on Wednesday, 26th August with a 7:45pm kick off.
