Match day two arrives at Sixways on Sunday as Worcester City Women welcome Barnsley in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands. With both sides suffering defeat in the opening day, Matt Jones and his staff will believe it’s City that can be the one to get off and running for the season.

Barnsley

Barnsley play their home games at Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield, and are managed by Craige Richardson.

Barnsley finished in fourth place last season in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table. They accumulated 42 points from 22 matches, registering 13 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats.

Previous meetings

The two sides met at Olympic Legacy Park on opening day last season where City fell to a 3-1 defeat in Yorkshire.

City were able to avenge the defeat when the two sides met again in the reverse fixture at Sixways in December 2025 following a close-range header at the back post by Kaye Haggett in the 19th minute, and a resolute second-half display that sent Worcester up to sixth in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table and gave the team the confidence going into the second half of the season.

Last time out

City travelled to Leafield Athletic on opening day, but were forced to rue missed chances as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the Castle Vale Stadium. Debutants Lowri Walker and Olivia Stubbs were the goal scorers for the visitors.

Barnsley also fell to defeat on the day as Chesterfield came away with a 1-0 win at Olympic Legacy Park.
