Goals from Nyah Edwards, Jess Fassnidge and Evie Billingsley secure City their first three points of the season

On Sunday, Worcester City Women had the chance to gain their first points of the season, as Sutton Coldfield Town Women visited Sixways. City will be looking to bounce back following their 1-0 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers Women on Wednesday night.
Three minutes in, the visitors had the games first attempt on goal after their attacker cut in from the left, however her attempt went well wide of the post.
Moments later Charlotte Poole found herself with some space to work with down the left hand side, however her cross was intercepted and gathered by the goalkeeper.
Shortly approaching the quarter of the hour mark, the ball fell to Nyah Edwards after some excellent work from Poole, however her shot from distance went over the bar.
Five minutes later, City found themselves 1-0 up, after Nyah Edwards reacted quickest and placed the ball in the bottom left hand corner after Poole’s original effort was blocked.
A few minutes later, Edwards almost scored her brace after Poole didn’t give up the loose ball and played it back to Edwards who took a touch and just fired a shot wide of the post.
The Royals just after the half hour mark, drove into the box and looked to have a clean effort on goal, however, Cerys Dolloway made an outstanding block to ensure Rebecca Wood easily gathered the ball.
Moments later, The visitors pinged a free kick from 15 yards into City’s half with the ball dropping kindly to their attacker who fired just over.
Five minutes later, City with some outstanding work to keep the visitors out. First, Shona Baldwin got a block on a shot and then Wood got across to recover well to make a great save to deny The Royals.
From the restart, the visitors got in behind and put in a dangerous ball across the box, however Baldwin was there to put the ball behind for a corner and the resulting corner hit the post and fell to a Sutton Coldfield player who put the ball over the bar.
Just before the hour mark, City doubled their lead through the skipper after Poole raced down the left channel and Jess Fassnidge raced to the back post to slot the ball home.
Minutes later, Evie Billingsley has an opportunity directly from a free kick, but the keeper makes a save.
With 15 minutes left, Billingsley added Worcester’s third after she fired in an effort from inside the box that flew past the keeper.
With five minutes remaining, Leah Ritson came on for her long awaited return from injury as she replaced Olivia Stubbs.
