Match Report | WCWFC 0-1 Chesterfield Women
Worcester City Women were made to rue missed chances as Chesterfield take all the points from Sixways
City had half a chance almost immediately from kick off after Lowri Walker turned her defender and played a through ball to the onrushing Kaye Haggett, but the keeper did well to gather the ball.
Worcester were in for a second time in the opening five minutes, after Annie Sime cut out the ball and drove up the pitch and played in Walker who was the provider again after she showed some great footwork inside the box, but her cross hit Sime and went behind.
Just before the 20th minute mark, Walker found herself in space in the middle of the pitch and found Haggett who had a dig from distance, but her effort went over the crossbar.
Moments later, Olivia Stubbs drove down the right hand into the box and put in a wicked cross that only needed a touch for it to be in the goal, however no Worcester player made the run.
The Worcester City Women faithful would be pleased with the start their side made at the mid way point of the first half. The only thing City was missing was that killer instinct in the final third.
A few minutes later, Evie Billingsley whipped in a pin point free kick into the box that was met by the head of Annie Sime, whose header just glanced the far side of the woodwork.
Just after the half hour mark, the visitors, against the run of play, took the lead as a ball was played behind City’s right channel and the forward cut inside the box and hit the ball into the top corner leaving Jodie Whiteman with no chance.
Five minutes later, Worcester came close to an equaliser as Stubbs found herself driving down the right channel, her cross was met by Haggett whose hooked effort fell onto the roof of the net.
Three minutes into the second half, Nyah Edwards played an excellent ball in behind for Stubbs who took the ball under control with her head but unfortunately her effort went over the bar.
Midway through the second half, game changer Mads Welham found herself in space inside the box and tried to bend a shot into the corner of the net, however the goalkeeper was equal to it and pushed the ball away.
Worcester ended up empty handed after they struggled to create any clear cut opportunities to try and salvage a point
