City kicked off Group C with a defeat to local rivals, Kidderminster Harriers

It was Sixways under the lights on Wednesday evening, as Worcester City Women opened their FA Women’s National League Cup campaign in a Group C clash against local rivals, Kidderminster Harriers. 

City started off brightly in the opening minutes and had half a chance from a Maja Szymkowiak corner, but Billie Haynes at the back stick couldn’t direct her effort goalwards.

Ten minutes later, the visitors had their first attempt of the game, but it was no problem for Rebecca Wood as she comfortably held onto the ball.

Shortly after the half hour mark, Nyah Edwards found herself with half a yard of space inside the penalty area and had a dig, but her shot was tipped behind for a City corner.

A few minutes before the break, Harriers put a ball in from the second phase, and the attacker was free inside the box, however didn’t generate enough power on her header and Wood gathered the ball.

Moments later, the visitors had the best chance of the half after a ball was hooked to the back post, and the attacker stabbed the ball off the post. 

Into the second half and Harriers took the lead after they regained the ball in the final third and had an effort that looped over Wood into the back of the net. 

A few minutes later, game changer Charlotte Poole drove into the box but her effort was saved via the keeper's legs.

Five minutes from time, Harriers hit the post on a rebound from a corner and Evie Billingsley fired over from a free kick.

Next up City’s, attention shifts back to the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlandsas Sutton Coldfield Town visit Sixways on Sunday, 30th August with a usual kick off time of 2pm.
