Match Report | Stourbridge 1-1 WCWFC
A topsy turvy game at Stourbridge see City take home a point.

City travelled to Stourbridge on Sunday afternoon, fresh from their back-to-back wins against Port Vale in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
Before the game, it was a nice moment of reflection for City right-back Shona Baldwin as she celebrated making her 100th appearance for City this afternoon.
Baldwin has been an integral part of the club’s recent history since joining the club in 2021 and in that time has helped to club to capture the League and County Cup double in 2023/2024 season.
It was the hosts who had the first attempt of the contest; however, the shot from the right of the box went wide.
City got in behind the Stourbridge defence moments later, but Maia Clark, who was clean through, but couldn’t get a foothold on the ball.
In the 17th minute Stour got in behind City’s left, but the ball went over the bar, and the a few minutes later Jodie Whiteman was called into action for the first time, and made an outstanding save as she tipped the ball off the bar, the ball could’ve landed anywhere, but Baldwin was on hand to clear the ball out for a corner.
Kaye Haggett made sure she gave City their first chance of the afternoon; however, her long-range effort was comfortably saved by the Stour keeper.
Stourbridge then piled on the pressure on the City goal after two chances in a matter of moments. Firstly, Whiteman made a save down to her left following a Stour free kick; however, the ball landed to a Stour attacker, and it was cleared off the line by City.
Then moments later, the hosts had another effort, but Whiteman made the save. then Immediately after, Nyah Edwards was played in, but the keeper bravely came out and made the save to keep the score level.
The hosts made their pressure count after they got in behind the left-hand side this time and made no mistake in slotting the ball past Whiteman.
Moments later, Clarke played the ball back to Edwards, whose goal-bound effort was blocked by the defender.
Immediately after the break, City found themselves level, after Charlotte Poole played in Clark, who slotted the ball into the bottom left.
Five minutes later, Poole drove down the left-hand side and forced the Stour into a good save to deny City the lead.
Just before the hour mark, Stour’s attacker chased down a Whiteman clearance, and the ball wacked off the attacker’s head and went wide of the post.
Moments later, Laila Rich had an effort from inside the box after the ball broke kindly for her, but her effort was straight at the goalkeeper, and then a couple of minutes later, the hosts countered on City and forced Whiteman into another good save as she palmed the ball out for a corner.
With just under fifteen minutes left, Clark made space for herself; however, the effort went wide of the post.
Five minutes later, City found themselves in trouble after a shot came in, but between Whiteman and the defence, City kept the ball out.
In the 85th minute was the pivotal moment of the game, after Stour cleared the ball and broke from A city free kick and with one on one with the attacker, Whiteman made an outstanding save.
In stoppage time, there was a chance a piece, firstly, Jenn Higgs was played in by Haggett with her shot stinging the palms of the Stour keeper, and then the hosts had a shot of their own, but Whiteman made a comfortable save.
Next up for City is a home clash in the FA Women’s National League as we welcome Sheffield to Sixways on Sunday, 16th November, with a 2:00pm kick off.

City’s trip to Lye Town was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. City’s next fixture is a trip to face local rivals Kidderminster Harriers in league action on Saturday, 18th November, with an 11:30am kick-off.
WCWFC Reserves
City hosted Knowle in league action on Sunday afternoon, but found themselves 2-0 down after 10 minutes; however, seven minutes later, Victoria Snape halved the deficit.
Pace setters Knowle found themselves 4-1 to the good at the break, two goals in the last ten minutes of the half. The visitors grabbed another in the 72nd minute to ensure they left Worcester with the three points.
