City were back in FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands action on Sunday afternoon as they visited third-place Leafield Athletic, hoping to bounce back from a defeat at Sixways at the hands of the league leaders, Boldmere St Michaels, a fortnight ago.
The hosts took the lead in the 8th minute despite a decent City start. Worcester almost got back into the game a minute later, as Charlotte Poole ran down the left flank and pulled the ball back to Maia Clark, who had an effort, but the keeper was equal to it.
Twenty minutes later, Kaye Haggett had a shot after taking a run down the right-hand side, but the Leafield keeper held onto the ball.
Maia Clark equalised for City in the 40th minute after she took the ball past the defender and struck low underneath the keeper’s leg to put City back on level terms.
City found themselves behind going into the break following the host's scoring in additional time.
Ten minutes into the second half, Clark had a dig from long-range, and her shot deflected off Haggett, allowing City to draw level for the second time in the game. We have to be honest; we still don’t know who scored the goal!
Just after the hour, the hosts scored three in ten minutes to put daylight between themselves and City.
In the 77th minute, Jessica Fassnidge had an effort from the edge of the box; however, the keeper held onto the ball as City tried to get themselves back into the contest.
The hosts added their sixth six minutes from time and their seventh in stoppage time to ensure City suffered back-to-back defeats.
Next up for City is a short trip to Droitwich for league action under the lights to face fierce rivals Kidderminster Harriers on Thursday, 19th February, with a 07:30pm kick-off.
WCWFC U18’s
City, fresh from their excellent 3-0 away win against Telford Town last time out, were on the road again as they faced Lye Town in league action on Saturday afternoon.
It was in the 29th minute, the hosts Lye took the lead, but City found themselves on level terms four minutes later, thanks to Ava’s strike. Ten minutes later, City were in the lead through Rosie R, which meant Worcester went into the break with the lead.
Into the second half, City scored their third in the 72nd minute through Rosie R, who bagged her brace in the process, and City took command of the contest ten minutes later through Isla.
Lye Town weren’t done and scored in the 83rd and the 86th minute respectively, but City held on and secured a precious three points.
Next up, City welcome Stourbridge to Little Perdiswell on Saturday, 14th February with a 10:30am kick-off.
WCWFC Reserves
City found themselves on the road in a league clash against Halesowen; however, the game was called off on Saturday evening as it fell victim to the ever-present wet weather.
Next up, City host Kingfisher on Sunday, 15th February in the West Midlands Regional League Division One South with kick-off scheduled for 02:00pm.
