On Sunday, City enter the Worcestershire County Cup at the Quarter Final stage as they take on Tier Six side Bromsgrove Sporting at the UK Electrical Stadium.

The Worcestershire County Cup provides an opportunity for City to reclaim their crown of 2024, following an exit in the competition at the Semi-Final stage last season at the hands of eventual winners Kidderminster Harriers.

Last time out

City travelled to Northampton and stretched their unbeaten run to four in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands following a 2-1 win at the O’Riordan Bond Stadium.

City went into the break 1-0 down, but a Maia Clark double with her second coming in the 99th minute secured Worcester the three points.

Bromsgrove Sporting play in the West Midlands Regional League Division One South, but haven’t been in action since November when they visited City Reserves, but were beaten 3-0 thanks to goals from Freya Wood, Lauren Smith and Victoria Snape.

Maia Clark at the double

We caught up with Maia post-game, and she gave us her reaction to the performance and on her two goals that helped City get over the line.

“I’m so pleased you know, everyone dug in. Going 1-0 down is not easy, but I thought we fought so hard first half, it was unlucky to get a result.

Second half, we just kept fighting, the game changers really made a big impact, and then just fought our way to the end.

I was so pleased. It felt like I hadn’t scored for ages, so it’s nice to get a couple of goals. First one, honestly, I don’t even know how it ended up at my feet, but I just kind of striker’s instincts left foot first time, knew the keeper wasn’t there, so I just hoped it went in.

Second one, just tried to go to the corner, didn’t end up there, but it went in, and I was just like doesn’t matter how it goes in and I’m just so happy for the team to win.”

This season

City remain in sixth position in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands and have accumulated an impressive twenty points from thirteen games, which leaves them in touching distance of third-place Sheffield, albeit having played a game more.

Bromsgrove Sporting currently sit in fourth place in the West Midlands Regional League Division One South, but have only played eight games this campaign, accumulating sixteen points, winning six and losing two.
