#17 Sophie Griffiths
I first started playing football with boys at school before attending a local all girls community club day with Perdiswell and Worcester. From the age of seven, I signed and I became actively involved in girls’ football, developing my skills and passion for the game. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to play at various levels from grassroots clubs, county teams and academies.
As a teenager, I represented Evesham United before progressing to the West Bromwich Albion academy, where I continued my development. I was then given the chance to combine my sporting ambitions with my education, playing for Cardiff Metropolitan University, a well-established club in the Welsh Premiership and BUCS league.
After my time at Cardiff Met, I travelled to the United States to coach football, where I was exposed to a whole new and exciting level of the game for women’s football. During my short stay in the US, I was also given the opportunity to train competitively, which challenged me to push myself further and excel both technically and mentally.
Upon returning to the UK, I joined Cheltenham Town for a few years before finally signing for Worcester City. This marked a special milestone, as it was the first time in my life I was able to play for a women’s team in my home city. 4 years on and I’m still here
I’m working as a PE Teacher.
Off the pitch, I am a keen surfer and skateboarder! Love travelling, meditation & yoga.
