WCWFC Sign Experienced Defender Emily Owen

Worcester City Women are delighted to announce the signing of defender Emily Owen

The 32-year-old joined the club on Tuesday and was thrown straight into Matt Jones’ starting XI and as City earned a crucial 2-2 draw against Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough.

The experience centre back joins us from Cheltenham Town Women, where she spent four years and was the clubs record appearance holder with over 130 appearances. Emily also offers great leadership as she used to be captain for the Gloucestershire club, which will be music to the ears of The Worcester City Women faithful.

With her first week as a Worcester City Women player done and dusted we caught up with Emily to get her thoughts on a whirlwind of a start.

She said: “My first week was very full on, but in a good way! … I came straight into training on the Thursday and then started our next game on the Tuesday! … the game was brilliant, an exciting watch for spectators as it was the local derby under the lights. It was quite funny for me really as I’d only met the girls for 2 hours the training before so to remember everyone’s names in time for the game took some doing! I’ve had the pleasure to know some players already here, from previous clubs, so it was lovely to join them again.”

“It’s a completely different atmosphere here, to what I’ve been used to, everyone’s welcoming, ambitious and wanting to win every game, together. This suits me down to the ground as I’m very competitive and hate losing! The future state of the club is so ambitious and our current aims are so exciting which is something to be very proud to be a part of.”

We are overjoyed that Emily has decided to join us and everybody at Worcester City Women are delighted to have her on board. Fans will have the first opportunity to watch her play at Sixways for the first time as Sheffield FC visit Sixways on Sunday, 8th November in FA Women’s National League action.
