Match Report | Kidderminster Harriers Women 2-2 WCWFC

City take the share of the spoils on Derby Day

Worcester City Women earned a point at Aggborough on Tuesday night after Charlotte Poole curled an effort into the top corner five minutes from time.

Worcester started on the front foot and found themselves in the lead inside three minutes when a deep Maja Szymkowiak cross was collected by Evie Billingsley who made no mistake with a smart finish into the bottom left hand corner.

Ten minutes later, the hosts equalized after they swung a corner in and a Harriers player had a free header from close range leaving Jodie Whiteman helpless.

Just before the half hour mark, Harriers had two efforts, first a decent effort from the edge of the box, however the effort landed on top of the net and then went even closer after some neat football, but the effort just snuck wide of the far post.

A couple of minutes later, Szymkowiak put in a long throw and confused the defenders, the ball fell to Jess Fassnidge who tried to fire it into the top corner, however her shot went wide.

Moments later, Fassnidge found Charlotte Poole who drove down the left and hit a shot that was heading into the net, but the goalkeeper got across and palmed the ball behind for a City corner.

Ten minutes before the break, City somehow didn’t retake the lead when Olivia Stubbs, who won the ball back high into the area, struck the crossbar and it was pinball inside the box and the ball eventually fell to Fassnidge whose effort was saved.

Moments later, Billingsley became the second Worcester player to rattle the crossbar in a matter of moments.

City had the first chance of the second half as Stubbs nicked the ball off the defender, but Billingsley couldn’t get a connection on the ball.

Kidderminster took the lead moments later when Billie Haynes cleared an effort off the line, however Worcester failed to clear their lines and the effort from the attacker flew into the top corner.

Ten minutes into the half, Fassnidge found Stubbs with an acute pass and Stubbs played a ball across the box from the byline and the ball hit the outside of the post.

On the hour mark, City had two chances to get back on level terms, first Poole’s effort was saved from close range and then Nyah Edwards had an opportunity but her shot from the edge of the box went wide.

With just over ten minutes later, Billingsley’s header was denied at the back stick by the goalkeeper after a great cross by game changer, Connie Matthews.

Five minutes from time, Charlotte Poole curled one into the top corner with a fantastic finish to earn City a precious point.
