Match Preview | Kidderminster Harriers Women Vs WCWFC

It’s Derby Day as Worcester City Women take on Kidderminster Harriers Women under the lights at Aggborough Stadium

Kidderminster Harriers

Kidderminster Harriers Women play their home games at Droitwich Spa FC and appointed Brandon Bevins as the Head Coach back in May following Andy Fishers’ departure.

In the 2025/2026 season, Harriers finished 9th in their debut FA Women’s National League season, accumulating 21 points from 22 games registering, 7 wins and 15 defeats.

The two sides were no strangers to each other last season, after playing each other on four different occasions, with City coming out on top in all four fixtures.

Back in September 2025, City came away 2-0 winners in the FA Women’s National League Cup after a dominant display at Sixways. Second-half goals from captain Jessica Fassnidge and Carys Lowley saw City gain the bragging rights.

City claimed the three points in their first league meeting of the season as the two sides met at Sixways in November as the two rivals squared off in the FA Women’s National League for the first time. Sophie Griffiths scored the only goal of the game to secure City the derby day spoils.

Back in February at Droitwich Spa FC, Worcester City Women made it a hat-trick of wins against their local rivals, winning 2-0 away from home, thanks to goals from Maia Clark and Annie Sime.

A month later at Sixways, the two clubs met in the Worcestershire FA County Cup Semi-Final and it was Clark, who loved a goal against Harriers, who gave City the lead 25 minutes in after she isolated the defender, took a touch around her and rifled in a shot. Ten minutes later, Phoebe Hill equalised for the visitors as the shot beat Whiteman at the near post.

Just after the hour mark, Clark was at the double when Connie Matthews glided down the left channel and put in a cross in the danger zone, and Clark was there to put out a foot and stab the ball home.

Ten minutes later, Hill equalised with a header to score a brace of her own, following a shot that Jodie Whiteman tipped onto the bar, but the ball ended up falling onto Hill’s head and placed her header accurately in the bottom right-hand corner.

Evie Billingsley who had the final say in her first game back since her long term injury as she calmly placed the ball into the net in stoppage time, after Shona Baldwin’s cross hit off Nyah Edwards and fell perfectly to Billingsley’s foot to ensure her side made it a 100% win rate against their bitter rivals.

The two sides have already met this campaign, in the opening round of group stage fixtures of the FA Women’s National League Cup at Sixways, with City on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.

Last time out

Worcester found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline as they were beaten by Notts County at Sixways. City were two down shortly after the restart, however, following a quick fire brace from Olivia Stubbs that put the hosts back on level terms.

The visitors retook the lead ten minutes later, but City showed incredible resilience and got another equaliser, after Maja Szymkowiak’s corner went straight in for her first goal in Worcester colours.

Just before the 90th minute mark, Notts County scored the winner, after they broke the offside trap and the attacker rounded Whiteman to tap the ball into an empty net.

Kidderminster Harriers advanced to the Second Round Proper of the Women’s FA Cup following a 4-2 win over Wroxham Women at Droitwich Spa FC.

We spoke to no nonsense Centre Back, Carys Lowley during the week to get her thoughts on the season so far and how she relishes Derby Day.

Carys, firstly how do you think the season is going both personally and collectively?

“Personally, the season has had its ups and downs, but I'm enjoying playing my football and staying focused on contributing to the team. Collectively, it's been a season of highs and lows as well, but we're a committed group, and we're all working hard to improve and push forward together.”

How keen are you and the group to put behind recent disappointments and to get the three points for the supporters?

“As a team and as a club, we're obviously disappointed with some of our recent results. However, we've got to turn that disappointment into motivation, and that's exactly what we're looking to do. We know the importance of getting back to winning ways, and we owe it to ourselves and our supporters to put things right and come away with the three points”

A massive game at Kiddy on Tuesday night, and we all know you love a Derby Day. Why do you think you always relish these types of matches?

“I've always loved derby games, mainly because of the atmosphere they bring. The energy and excitement in the build-up to the match is something I really enjoy, and playing in front of bigger crowds, especially under the lights, always adds to the occasion. I find those types of games bring the best out of me and I enjoy the extra pressure that comes with them. The buzz, the intensity, and what the game means to both sets of supporters makes it a fixture I always look forward to being part of.”

This season

Following a dip in form in recent weeks, City have dropped to 8th place in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table and just sit a point against Tuesday’s opponents Kidderminster Harriers after seven matches.
