City’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign commenced on Sunday afternoon as they visited Peterborough for a third-round qualifier clash with Stanground Cardea Sports.

Two minutes into the game, there was a half chance for City, after a ball over the top was played by Bethan Marriott to Keeley Crew, but Jenn Higgs couldn’t make contact with the ball.

Eight minutes later, Kaye Haggett had a strike from distance that went wide of the post.

In the 13th minute, Marriott played another ball over the top to Crew, but the keeper was equal to her shot.

Two minutes later, City took the lead, with a delightful header from Annie Sime, after a great ball into the box from Clara Zaffignani.

Two chances in a matter of moments for Laila Rich, firstly a rocket of a shot cannoned off the bar, and the second shot went just wide of the post.

Moments later, Rich scored her first City goal after her shot trickled into the net.

Cerys Dolloway hit the bar with a long-range effort in the 39th minute.

Into the second half, and new signing Maia Clark came on to make her City debut up top, but it was the hosts who had the first effort and forced Jodie Whiteman into a comfortable save.

Shortly before the hour mark, game-changer Sophie Griffiths almost had an immediate impact, after her great ball into the box nearly fell to Rich.

In the 67th minute, City hit the bar twice in a matter of moments after shots by Crew and Maia Clark.

A minute later, the hosts got their first.

In the 75th minute, Crew got City’s third after a great run by Clark, who squared the ball to Griffiths, who hit the woodwork, but the ball fell to Crew, who tucked away the rebound.

In the 81st, Nyah Edwards tried to get City’s fourth of the afternoon, but her effort was saved.

Next up is a return to league action as City visit Notts County on Sunday, 12th October, with a 2pm kick-off.

WCWFC Reserves

City’s Reserves welcomed Hereford Pegasus to the University of Worcester on Sunday afternoon.

U18s player Lily Jackman made her debut this afternoon, along with new signing Freya Wood.

Hereford Pegasus took the lead in the second minute via a penalty, but City pegged them back in the 16th minute after a Victoria Snape strike.

Three minutes before the break, it was Snape again on the mark, as City went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Ava Bond-Evans grabbed City’s third five minutes after the break to ensure City came away with the three points.
