Sheffield FC Women

Sheffield FC Women are part of Sheffield FC, ‘The world’s first football club’ and are managed by Andrea Parkinson who took over the helm back in October.

They made a groundbreaking announcement back in August as they announced a partnership with pop star and Spice Girls member Melanie C who became their front of shirt sponsor.

They won the double two seasons ago, gaining promotion from the East Midlands Women’s Regional League Premier Division and winning the East Midlands Women’s League Cup back in May, defeating Rotherham United 2-0 in the final.

Last season, they finished in 6th position and ended up a solitary point behind City as they accumulated 34 points from 22 games in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

Last time out

Last week, under the lights at Aggborough City earned a 2-2 draw against Kidderminster Harriers. Evie Billingsley opened the scoring in the third minute, however Harriers struck back and found themselves in the lead, but with minutes remaining Charlotte Poole curled one into the top corner as both sides took the share of the spoils.

Sheffield FC welcomed Chesterfield Women to the Home of Football, but fell to a heavy 6-0 defeat.

This season

Worcester currently sit in 8th position in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table, but could move as high as 6th with the three points on Sunday depending on the results of Lye Town and Wythenshawe.

Sheffield, however, are sitting bottom of the table and have only registered a point in their opening 8 matches.

Previous meetings

It was a tale of two halves when the two side locked horns at Sixways back in November as City fell to a 4-1 defeat. The visitors in the 18th minute, but Cerys Dolloway scored with an excellent strike from the edge of the box to ensure City went into the break all square.

Worcester capitulated ten minutes into the second half, which saw the visitors travel to Yorkshire with the three points.

Back in March at the Home of Football Stadium to face a well-organised Sheffield side. City were excellent throughout in an almost complete performance in Yorkshire and came away 2-1 winners to gain an impressive three points.

Worcester took the lead just before the 25th minute mark, after the hosts failed to clear a Connie Matthews corner, and Annie Sime swung her foot at it and rifled an unstoppable shot into the back of the Sheffield net to send the away fans into ecstasy.

Sheffield got back into the game against the run of play on the stroke of half-time as the ball bobbled in the area.

On the hour mark, striker Maia Clark went on one of her mazey runs and was shoulder barged right on the edge of the area. Jess Fassnidge, took responsibility and squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper to ensure City regained their lead.

City thought they scored a third, after Carys Lowley found herself at the back stick to prod the ball home, after a delicious whipped-in cross by Matthews from the right-hand edge of the box, however the officials deemed the defender scored with her hand, and the goal was ruled out.

What made you want to join WCWFC?

The ambition of the club. The staff and players as well, who all want to work together to achieve higher status.

Favourite achievement within football so far?

My favourite achievement so far would be coming on for the last 10 minutes after returning from an ACL injury and scoring the winner in the 92nd minute in the FA Cup when playing for Aston Villa in the WSL.

What are you most excited for ahead of the 26/27 season?

I’m most excited for the aim of promotion. We are good enough to do it, so it’s just about applying ourselves now!
