Worcester City Women Matchday Round Up 19/03/23

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

WCWFC Development 4-1 Rugby Town

A bright day at Claines, saw a brace from Badland to help the Development side keep their unbeaten home record.

City pulled ahead after just eight minutes when Conway cleverly slipped a weighted through ball behind the back line to Badland who made no mistake this early and cooly slide home.

Just five minutes after the first, Ford got some of the action, dancing through the defence to open space before hitting the bottom corner.

After dominating possession since doubling the lead, another chance fell not long after; but the ball was picked out of the goal to the sound of the Referee blowing for offside.

Rugby however pulled one back, to etch themselves into the game.

A brace for Badland right before the half time whistle, she showed great strength to hold off the defender before letting off a thundering strike across goal leaving the keeper no chances to stop.

Devs coach Ty Patrick said: “She’s been fantastic, really committed to the team i’d be horrified if I was a defender against her.”

A controlled start to the second half gave little sight for Rugby to get back into the game. Their only chance saved convincingly by Thatcher’s feet.

Smith added another blow after she found herself with acres of space in the box picking her spot and calmly stroking into the goal.

Another strong performance, in great home form.

After two weeks of postponements, the first team will be back in action on Sunday as they host top of the league Sutton Coldfield at Claines Lane. The Development team also have a tricky game on Sunday as they play top of the league Coventry Sphinx.
