Worcester City Women Matchday Round Up 09/04/23

Lichfield City 0 - 1 WCWFC

Cerys Dolloway was the hero after her late header against Lichfield City ensured back-to-back league victories.

In a tight contest on Easter Sunday, Dolloway rose highest to meet a cross sent in by captain, Jess Fassnidge to hand City the three-points.

Game management proved important for Matt Lock’s side once more, as they kept ball possession in large periods of the game to dismiss any threat from the opposition.

During the opening stages, City controlled the game’s action, as Olivia Mitcham controlled a ball before firing a shot that was equally well saved by the Lichfield goalkeeper.

Minutes later, Alisha Hine was forced into action as an 18-yard effort was beaten away by the reliable keeper.

After a first half that was majorly played in the opposition’s half, the second half had taken a different outlook as Lichfield squandered a handful of chances before City capitalised 12 minutes before the final whistle was blown.

After the game, Matt Lock was ‘over the moon’. He said – “I couldn’t be happier. I love a one-nil, I think it’s a proper game of football. And you're being pushed, they were really good today, so full credit to Lichfield. But we took our chance, and I’m over the moon with that”.

Worcester will host Lichfield City again on Sunday in the return fixture at Claines Lane in a 2.30pm kick-off. Get your tickets here.

A massive thank you to our amazing fans who made the trip to Lichfield. La Familia!
