Worcester City Women FC 4 v 0 City of Stoke Women

April 18th, 2022

Worcester City Women ended their league campaign with a 4-0 victory over a spirited City of Stoke side at Claines Lane on Easter Sunday.

City were dominant throughout but failed to break the deadlock in the first half. Amy Mulcock looked lively as she looked to create chances for the City forward line, with Senna Robinson causing problems for the City of Stoke defense. Katie Lawrence and Jess Jenkins, moving into the first team fold from the Development squad worked tirelessly throughout.

Charlotte Wallis was introduced at half time and made an instant impact for the second half and Robinson continued to cause problems for the Stoke defense, linking up well with Collins. On 58 minutes the deadlock was broken when Lapore broke up a Stoke attack and found Wallis, who drove forward with the ball and played a defense splitting ball into the path of Mulcock who calmly finished to put City 1 up.

Shortly afterwards, Collins collected a loose ball from the keeper and played in Robinson who took a touch but shot over the bar. City didn’t have long to wait for their second though and this time it was Lapore on the scoresheet. A free kick from Johnson was held up well by Collins, who laid the ball off perfectly for Lapore who placed a left-footed strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

On 77 minutes Robinson got the third, when she ran on to a long through ball from Jess Jenkins, evaded the defender with her quick feet and smashed the ball in off the post a deserved goal for her performance.

Mulcock got her second of the game and City’s fourth on 88 minutes. Robinson put a dangerous cross in from the right which D’oyen Fitchett picked up and rounded the Stoke full-back and pulled the ball back for Mulcock to coolly slot home into the roof of the net.

City’s second half performance especially showcased some fantastic football and showed plenty of encouraging signs with young players coming through and finding their feet in the first team.

City now focus on the Worcestershire County Cup Final at Claines Lane on 8th May. Ticket information for this match will be announced in due course and we hope to see as many of you there as possible to show your support!
