Worcester City Women 1-2 Shifnal Town Ladies
A second half penalty for Shifnal Town was all that was able to separate the two sides in the Vitality FA Cup second round qualifying match.
The game got off to an eventful start with City winning a freekick inside two minutes, which sailed just over the bar. But it wasn’t until the 20th minute when City gave the strong home crowd something to cheer about after a fantastic solo run by D’oyen Fitchett led to her slotting the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to give City the advantage.
Despite City’s bright start, Shifnal grew into the game and the equalizer came just before the end of the first half. A lapse in defence saw a Shifnal forward get in and slot the ball past Whitbury.
City kept pressing in the second half, but failed to create any clear cut chances until the 75th minute when Collins was put through on goal but her effort was parried away by the keeper. Not long after, Shifnal were awarded a controversial penalty which was converted, and City’s FA Cup journey came to an end.
City return to league action next Sunday afternoon where they face an away trip to Crusaders Women with a 2pm Kick Off. We hope to see you there!
