Worcester City Women 1-1 Redditch United Women
An eventful second half in an evenly matched contest saw City come away with a well-deserved point.
The game started off slowly with few chances being created either side of the pitch. Both sides seemed to be figuring each other out, with the midfield battle being key.
Worcester started threatening when a penalty appeal after a challenge on Hill was waved away by the referee, just before the 20-minute mark. Afterwards, City had shots from Hill and Simpson as they began to knock on the door slightly.
The second half couldn’t have started better for City as D'oyen Fitchett’s low hard cross came off the Redditch captain and gave us a deserved 1-0 advantage heading into the 50th minute. City’s goal appeared to spark Redditch into life and the game became end-to-end.
After chances for both sides, Redditch were rewarded for their efforts by levelling the scoreline, just after the hour mark. The shot was powered home past Burnham and into the top left corner.
The closest City came to leading again was when Redditch goalkeeper – Godfrey pulled off a world class save by getting a hand to a fantastic shot from Wallis to keep the ball out of the net.
3 games into the new season and City sit in mid-table after a mixed bag of results, including a win, draw and defeat.
The Worcester City Women Development Team have had a great start to their season, winning both games played against Cradley Town DC Ladies 6-3 and 7-0 respectively.
Our First Team’s next league fixture is away to Coventry Sphinx next Sunday, 26th September 2pm at the Ryona Engineering Stadium, Coventry.
