Redditch United Women  1 – 3 Worcester City Women FC

Dec 5th, 2021

Worcester City Women’s winning streak continued when they came from behind to win 3-1 away to Redditch United in a comfortable afternoon for City.

Redditch United started the game well and created the first opening, but the shot blazed well over the bar. It wasn’t long after that chance that Redditch then went on to score. The Redditch player was afforded too much space and had a shot from outside the box that hit the bottom right corner.

The Redditch goal seemed to spur the City team into action, when moments later, Collins did what she does best and looped the ball over the keeper from outside the box to get us level.

City began to turn up the heat as chances flooded their way. D’oyen Fitchett had an effort that was comfortably saved by the Redditch keeper. The next big chance came when a cross from the in-form Farr found its way to Collins, who headed wide.

City turned the game on its head, as some quick exchanges between Rew and Collins before finding Farr, who from outside the box, curled her left-footed shot over the keeper to give us a well-deserved lead heading into the break.

After the break, Redditch pressed high up the pitch but the City defence and Goalkeeper Pye-Whitbury kept their cool to maintain good possession.

It wasn’t long into the second half when Worcester got their 3rd, a wonderful strike from Mulcock from outside the box from a well worked corner, left the Keeper rooted to her spot and found the top left corner.

There was also a second half debut for 17-year-old Katie Lawrence, who has been in impressive form for the Worcester City U18s and Development team. She made an instant impact, hitting the post shortly after coming on. And moments later, she won Worcester a penalty. Collins stood over it with the chance to wrap up victory, however put her effort over the bar.

All players, officials, and fans paid tribute to the sad passing of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes in the sixth minute of the match with a one minutes applause.

The result earned City a fourth straight win in all competitions. Worcester return to Claines Lane next week, Sunday 12th December to face Coventry Sphinx for a 2.30pm kick off. Click here to buy tickets.
