Coventry Sphinx Ladies 1-3 Worcester City Women
Worcester City Women picked up another 3 points on the road, with a dominant display with goals from Maisie Farr, Ellie Gerhold and Karli Smith.
As the game kicked off both teams managed an attempt on goal with neither shot challenging the keepers. The next 30 minutes were uneventful as both teams were figuring out a way to break down the opposition.
On the 35th minute City whipped in a dangerous corner and after a scramble in the box, Maisie Farr managed to win the ball and chip her shot past the keeper to make it 1-0.
And only 60 seconds later Worcester managed to grab a second goal in quick succession as a lovely through ball from City’s midfielder, Emma Collins put Lauren D’oyen Fitchett 1 on 1. D’oyen Fitchett’s attempt was well saved by the goalkeeper who tipped it onto the bar but on the rebound Ellie Gerhold was able to tap the ball into the empty net and give Worcester City a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the break.
In the second half the game started to open up a lot more with plenty of chances for both teams coming in thick and fast with no team being able to finish off their chances. As the 70th minute came around Worcester had a freekick on the edge of the box which was placed brilliantly into the top corner by Karli Smith to make it 3-0 and put to bed any chance of Coventry making a comeback.
However, as the game entered the final 10 minutes Coventry Sphinx were awarded a penalty after a collision in the box. The penalty was then placed well into the middle of the goal, to make it 3-1 which became a consolation goal as Worcester City managed to see out the win to give them their 2nd away win of the season.
