City of Stoke Women 1 v 2 Worcester City Women
A hard fought win saw Worcester City Women take all 3 points in yesterday’s league encounter at City of Stoke, with goals from Kerstin Ballard and Amy Mulcock.
City took control of the game early on and went ahead just after the 10 minute mark when a cross from the left was cleared by the City of Stoke defence, but only to midfielder Kerstin Ballard, who took a lovely first touch and sent a 20-yard strike into the roof of the net - her first goal in blue and white.
Worcester were soon celebrating again when Amy Mulcock, also scoring her first in City colours, showed great composure in the box to fire home a left-footed shot into the top corner from 8 yards out after a fine assist by loanee Jess Rew down the left.
City of Stoke pulled 1 back not long before the break from a free kick and Shona Baldwin rattled the crossbar, which would have put City 3-1 up. An injury to Goalkeeper Whitbury delayed the game for several minutes and she had to be replaced temporarily, meaning midfielder Emma Collins bravely stepped in goal for the remainder of the first half.
Worcester took their deserved lead into half time and showed great character and resilience in the second half, controlling the game against a physical City of Stoke side, to get the win and take all 3 points.
